Last month, members of the U.S. House and Senate could not come to an agreement on a budget bill in order to fund the government beyond September 30. As a result, the U.S. Federal Government has been shut down since 12:01 a.m. on October 1, 2025, with no clear end in sight.
As a result, all "non-essential" government services have been suspended and several hundred thousand federal employees and active-duty service members are now working without pay. Most federally-funded social programs are also left with dwindling funds, including the Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program (SNAP), the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Program, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) farming and food programs, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) affordable housing initiatives and more.
This freeze on Federal funding could mean significant hardships for communities across our country, including right here in Titusville. Whether you receive assistance for housing or nutrition, rely on a local non-profit or community organization that receives Federal grants, or work directly for a federal contractor or government agency, you may be negatively impacted if this shutdown continues.
If you've got specific concerns about the shutdown or questions about how it may affect you, send a quick note to Councilman Griffin below.
